Integrating modern vehicle access into a heritage-listed Sydney residence required a solution that could provide practical basement parking without compromising the character or presentation of the property.
The Challenge
Access to the residence is via a narrow laneway leading to a private paved courtyard. With limited space available at ground level, the project required a vehicle access solution that could provide access to basement parking while retaining the courtyard as a functional parking and outdoor area.
Just as importantly, the finished installation needed to integrate discreetly with the architecture of the heritage property.
The Solution
HLS Equipment worked with the project stakeholders, including the architectural team, to integrate an OMER Total Rex car lift into the courtyard.
As the vehicle approaches through the laneway, the property gate opens and the car lift can be raised ready to receive the vehicle. The lift then transports the vehicle from courtyard level down to the private basement garage.
A paved lid integrated into the lift allows the courtyard surface to be reinstated once the lift is lowered, providing an additional usable parking space at ground level.
The Outcome
The completed installation provides the residence with practical basement vehicle access while maintaining the appearance and functionality of the courtyard above.
From the street and surrounding laneway, there is little indication that a car lift and basement garage sit beneath the paved courtyard — allowing the vehicle access solution to remain secondary to the architecture of the property.
